# First login, navigation, and support

Use this guide for the first few minutes of Essential training.

## Sign in

Bookmark grow\.withessential.com. To set up a password, open the Reset Your Password email from <support@withessential.com>. If the link is part of guided business onboarding, Essential signs you in after you set the password and continues to onboarding. If you forget your password later, use "Reset my password" from the login page.

Web sign-in lasts up to 30 days between session renewals. If you need to sign in again, each open tab keeps its page and filters so you can return to your work. Logging out keeps your saved scheduling View Options in the same browser.

## Navigation after login

After login, use the left navigation menu to move between product areas. Use the top search bar to find records, and use the New shortcut at the top to quickly add customers, properties, contacts, invoices, subscriptions, quotes, and jobs or visits from anywhere.

On a wide screen, use the arrow at the bottom of the left navigation to collapse or expand it. Essential saves that choice in your browser and uses it the next time you sign in. On narrower screens, the navigation always stays collapsed; widening the window restores your saved preference.

Search shows active records only. Customers and properties you have marked inactive are left out, so an archived account cannot outrank the one you still work with. When you need one, use **Show inactive customers and properties** at the bottom of the results; **Hide inactive customers and properties** puts them back. Search returns to active-only the next time you open it. Recent follows the same rule: inactive customers and properties don't appear there while they're hidden, even ones you opened while they were still active.

On a phone, the search bar starts as a magnifying glass next to the logo. Tap it and the search bar opens across the top of the screen so you can type; tap Cancel to close it and bring the rest of the header back. The record-type filter to the left of the search box shows as an icon on a phone — tap it to search only customers, properties, contacts, jobs, invoices, quotes, subscriptions, or purchase orders.

When you open New from a customer, property, contact, or job page, Essential carries that context into the create flow when it applies. For example, a new quote, invoice, subscription, or visit can open with the related customer, property, or job already filled in. A contact you opened New from carries through as the recipient on a new visit, and on a new subscription when its property fills in too — but not on a quote or invoice. From a customer page, the property fills in only when that customer has exactly one property.

Most training sessions start from the Customers page. From there, you can use the left navigation to move to Properties, Contacts, Scheduling, Tasks, Quotes, Invoices, Reports, Settings, and other product areas. The logout control is in the top right.

## Adjust table columns

Move your pointer between two column headings to reveal a teal divider, then drag it to resize the column on its left. You can also resize the last column from the table's right edge. Tables scroll horizontally only when their columns need more room than the available space, so you can keep instructions and other long text readable.

Double-click the divider to fit the heading and content on the current page, up to a comfortable maximum width. You can also focus a divider with Tab and use the Left and Right arrow keys to resize; hold Shift for larger steps, or press Enter to fit.

Desktop and mobile column widths are saved separately for your account and each table in this browser, including after you log out and sign back in. Another browser or device keeps its own widths.

## Support

Once you're signed in, open the Essential Assistant and choose the **Talk to a human** tab to contact Essential. It docks Essential's support chat inside the Assistant panel, where support can chat, switch to voice, or screen share when needed.

> **Where to find it:** grow\.withessential.com; after signing in, Essential Assistant > Talk to a human

In the mobile app, support is on the **Support** tab. See [Get help in the mobile app](/field-operations/mobile/get-help-in-the-mobile-app.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://learn.withessential.com/administration/basics/first-login-navigation-and-support.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
