# Configure technician schedule-change notifications

Choose how technicians hear about additions, moves, and removals on future days of their schedule. You can set one business default, override it for individual technicians, and decide whether technicians may change their own preference.

> **Where to find it:** Settings -> Team -> Technician App -> Notifications

## Choose the business default

Under **Business defaults**, choose:

1. **Frequency**:
   * **Off** sends no notifications for future-day schedule changes.
   * **Near real-time (1–2 min)** groups edits made within a minute, then usually sends one update within 1–2 minutes after changes stop.
   * **Daily summary** sends one summary at the selected time each day.
2. **Channel**: Push, Email, or Push + email.
3. **Daily summary time** when Daily summary is in use. The time follows your business timezone.

Changes to today's schedule still notify the technician right away. These settings only control changes on a future day.

## Preview the technician messages

Select **Preview messages** beside **Business defaults** to see sample push notifications and the matching email. The preview uses the same message renderer as delivery, with sample visits in your business timezone.

* A push for one change identifies the addition, removal, or move. It includes the visit date and address; a moved visit also includes its new time.
* A push for several changes shows the affected date or date range and summarizes how many visits were added, removed, and moved.
* The email subject is **Your upcoming schedule changed**. Its body lists every affected visit in date order and ends with a prompt to open Essential for details.

The preview does not send anything. Actual messages replace the sample dates and addresses with the technician's schedule information.

## Decide whether technicians can make changes

Set **Allow technicians to override** to **Yes** when technicians should be able to choose their own Frequency and Channel in the mobile app. Set it to **No** when admins should manage every technician's preference from this page.

Turning this setting off does not erase a technician's saved choice. It makes that choice read-only in mobile. If you turn access on again later, the saved choice is available again.

## Override an individual technician

The **Per technician** table lists active technicians alphabetically. Leave Frequency and Channel on **Business default** to inherit the choices above, or select a different value for that technician.

For example, you can keep a daily push summary for the business while giving an on-call technician near-real-time email updates.

Admins can always edit the **Per technician** table, whether technician overrides are allowed or not. When overrides are allowed, the admin table and the technician's mobile setting edit the same preference, so the most recently saved change applies.

## Change a preference in the mobile app

When an admin allows technician overrides:

1. In the Essential mobile app, tap your avatar.
2. Tap **Settings**.
3. Under **Schedule notifications**, choose a Frequency and Channel.
4. Tap **Save notifications**.

Choose **Business default** to follow the business choices shown on the admin settings page. The daily summary time remains controlled by an admin. If overrides are not allowed, the mobile page shows the effective preference and **Managed by your administrator** instead of edit controls.

## Save your changes

Select **Save** to apply the business defaults and every technician override together. **Discard** restores the last saved values. Essential warns you before leaving the page with unsaved changes.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://learn.withessential.com/administration/settings/configure-technician-schedule-notifications.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
