# Connect QuickBooks to sync accounting

The Accounting section on Settings -> Invoicing connects QuickBooks so financial data syncs. The section appears when invoicing is enabled and your role can set up integrations. If the section is missing but you need to manage accounting setup, contact your business's administrator to review your role.

For QuickBooks Online, Connect QuickBooks Online runs an OAuth flow and then shows your connected company.

For QuickBooks Desktop, you download a .qwc file, install it in QuickBooks Web Connector, and paste the one-time password it shows you (it's shown once - regenerate it if lost), after which it polls to sync.

Either way you then map your internal accounts to the right QuickBooks accounts under Chart of Accounts and use Save Account Mappings; every mapping must be set before you can save. You can disconnect, or for Desktop regenerate the password, from the same section.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://learn.withessential.com/administration/settings/connect-quickbooks-to-sync-accounting.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
