# Connect Stripe for payments and automatic sales tax

The Payments section on Settings -> Invoicing connects Stripe so you can charge customers online. The section appears when invoicing is enabled and your role can set up integrations. If the section is missing but you need to manage payment setup, contact your business's administrator to review your role.

Use Connect Stripe, enter your email, and Begin Account Setup; the account verifies (this can take a moment) and then shows as Connected with its account email. Once connected, an Automatic sales tax (Stripe) toggle lets Stripe calculate sales tax on quotes, invoices, and subscriptions - enabling it asks you to confirm and means your default tax lines no longer apply.

If your business uses provider tax rates, a Tax Registrations area also appears so you can manage where you're registered. Stripe is connected and managed here, not through the assistant.

In the standard training flow, invoices are introduced after quotes because they depend on payment setup. Connect Stripe before relying on online customer payments, saved card charges, autopay, or automatic sales tax.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://learn.withessential.com/administration/settings/connect-stripe-for-payments-and-automatic-sales-tax.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
