# Create brands for multiple business identities

A brand is a customer-facing identity with its own name, color, and logo. Your business profile is always your **default brand**. Add another brand when you trade under a second name, such as a division, an acquisition whose name you kept, or a regional trade name. Addresses and phone numbers belong to offices, not brands.

> **Where to find it:** Settings -> Business Profile, in **Brand**

## Before you start

Adding, editing, and deleting brands needs the **Set up Business Profile** permission — the same one that opens Settings -> Company -> Business Profile.

The fields at the top of Brand are your default brand. Additional brands appear in that same container, so you do not need to enter the default twice.

## Add a brand

1. Go to **Settings -> Business Profile**, find **Brand**, and click **Add brand** under Additional brands.
2. Enter the **brand name** (required) — the name customers know this part of the business by.
3. Pick a **brand color** and upload its **logo**.
4. If an additional office exists, select at least one location under **Default for offices**. Those offices will use this brand by default; the Main office continues to use the default brand above.
5. Check the **Letterhead preview** at the bottom of the form. It updates as you type.
6. Click **Add brand**.

The Brand container shows each additional brand's logo or colored initial and name in a compact row. A preview for every additional brand also appears below the primary Letterhead preview. Addresses and phone numbers stay on offices, so an additional-brand preview does not add duplicate office fields to the brand.

## Point an office at a brand

Essential only asks you to connect brands and offices when you have more than one of each. Adding a brand while an additional office exists requires choosing at least one office for it. When you add another office later, you must explicitly choose either the business profile or one of the additional brands as that office's default.

## Delete a brand

Deleting a brand moves any office that used it back to your default brand. Essential tells you how many offices that affects before you confirm.

An office's default brand is used on quotes and invoices for properties handled by that office. The office contributes its address and phone number; the brand contributes its name, color, and logo. Properties that use the Main office continue to use the default Business Profile brand.

When the Customer Portal is enabled, Settings -> Customer Portal lists a separate customer link for the default brand and every additional brand assigned to an office. Share the matching brand link so the customer sees the right identity before requesting a sign-in email.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://learn.withessential.com/administration/settings/create-brands-for-multiple-business-identities.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
