# Set up quote prompt templates for AI drafting

Quote Prompt Templates are reusable instructions that guide AI-assisted quote drafting, organized by asset group type. On Settings -> Quotes, use **New prompt** to create one with a name, choose the asset group types it covers in **Asset Group Types covered**, add an optional description, and enter the instructions you want the assistant to follow when drafting a quote for those asset groups; you can also attach a Terms & Conditions set.

When someone drafts a quote with AI for an asset group of a covered type, the matching prompt's instructions are applied. Open a prompt from the list to edit or delete it.

## How the description is used

The description is customer-facing. When a quote is drafted with this template, the description is copied into the quote word for word as its summary — unless your instructions tell the assistant what to write in the description, in which case the assistant writes it instead. Leave the description blank to always let the assistant write the summary. The Description editor supports rich text — bold, italics, underline, headings, lists, divider lines, and tables — and that formatting carries into the generated document exactly (see [Format descriptions and terms with rich text](/revenue/quotes/format-descriptions-and-terms-with-rich-text.md)).

## Starter Items

A prompt template can also carry a list of starter Items — pricebook items, each with a quantity, in the order you want them. Every quote drafted with the template begins with those lines: each starter keeps its pricebook name, description, tax setting, and the effective price for that customer or property (custom pricing applies automatically). The assistant adds its own lines after them, and it only changes or removes a starter when your instructions explicitly say to.

To add them, open a prompt template, pick items in the **Items** section, set each quantity, and drag to reorder. Fractional quantities (like 1.5 hours) are allowed.
