# Set recurring service automations

Choose whether asset groups use their own automation settings or stay set to **None** across a customer's locations.

> **Where to find it:** Customers → open the customer → Edit → **Recurring service automations**, beside Status.

The dotted field label opens a popover explaining the two choices.

## Always set to None

1. Select **Always set to None**.
2. Review the visible message: **Saving will also change existing automations to None.**
3. Click **Save** in Edit Customer.

This sets existing recurring service automations to None across the customer's non-deleted locations and asset groups, including inactive asset groups. New automations also start at None; other template settings are preserved.

Properties moved or merged into this customer adopt its setting: **Always set to None** changes their existing recurring service automation types to None. Moving to a customer that uses individual settings preserves their current types; previous types are not restored.

The customer page displays a **Recurring Service Automations: None** pill, including while viewing the Automations tab. The customer timeline records the change and the number of services changed.

On an asset group, **Edit** in Automation Setup is unavailable while this customer setting is selected. Hover over or focus it to see how to return to individual settings.

Selecting a radio option does not save immediately. **Cancel** leaves the setting and existing automation types unchanged.

## Use each asset group’s settings

1. Select **Use each asset group’s settings**.
2. If the customer was previously set to Always set to None, choose an **Automation Type** for existing asset groups across all properties: **None**, **Automated Outreach**, or **Custom Task**. None is selected initially.
3. Click **Save** to apply the selected type together with any pending customer edits.

The chosen type applies only to existing automations. New automations use their normal asset-group/template settings. Existing task descriptions and other schedule settings are preserved. Previous automation types are not automatically restored.

**Back** returns to Edit Customer without applying the choice. Unsaved customer edits remain available. Once saved, the customer pill disappears and asset groups can be edited individually.

This setting does not turn off separate invoice or quote follow-ups or visit reminders.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://learn.withessential.com/customers-and-work/customers/disable-service-automations.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
