# Adding an asset group to a property

An asset group represents a type of equipment at a property, such as a set of extinguishers or a sprinkler system. To add one, open the property page and use **Add Asset Group** to open the Add Asset Group window. Start by choosing the **Asset Group Type**.

If recurring service templates exist for that asset group type, a Recurring Service Template field appears. You can pick one of those templates to set the equipment up with its standard recurring service, or choose Create from scratch to add the group without a template.

When a default template is configured for the asset group type, it's preselected for you, though you can change it. Applying a template adds a required Last Service or Installation Date field; this date tells the system when service last happened (or when the equipment was installed) so it can schedule the next recurring service correctly.

If you create from scratch, or if the asset group type has no templates, no date is required here. You can also fill in any custom fields shown for that asset group type and add an optional Description, which is helpful when a property has several asset groups of the same type. Select **Add Asset Group** to finish.

Note that depending on your permissions, each asset group type may be limited to one group per property. If **Add Asset Group** is missing or you need broader asset setup access, contact your business's administrator to review your role.

> **Where to find it:** Property page, Add Asset Group button, Add Asset Group modal

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://learn.withessential.com/customers-and-work/properties/adding-an-asset-group-to-a-property.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
