# Transfer assets between groups

Move existing assets into another asset group on the same property. The source and target must have the same asset group type.

> **Where to find it:** On the web, open an asset group and choose **Move Assets to another Asset Group** from the **⋮** menu on the Assets card. The action appears only when the property has another group of the same type to move assets into.

## Transfer assets

1. Choose the **Target group**. Only groups on this property with a matching type are listed.
2. Select the assets to move. Search to narrow the list, or use **Select all**. Selections remain selected when you change the search.
3. Choose **Move Assets to another Asset Group** to finish. Follow **View target group** in the confirmation to open the destination.

If a group changes before you submit, check the selection and try again. The target must have room for the selected assets under its per-type limits.

## What moves

Assets keep their attributes and service completion history. They appear after the target's existing assets within each asset type.

Inspection reports stay with their original group, and submitted answers remain unchanged. Recurring service schedules on both groups stay unchanged. Transferring every asset leaves the source group empty and available.

Both groups' timelines record the transfer.

To move a whole group to a different property or customer, use [Move an asset group to another property](/field-operations/assets/move-an-asset-group-to-another-property.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://learn.withessential.com/field-operations/assets/transfer-assets-between-groups.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
