# Inventory quantity terms: on-hand, reserved, available, incoming

The Inventory page shows several quantity columns for each item. Several of the quantity column headers have a hover tooltip explaining them. Total Qty is everything on hand at the location, including items that are spoken for.

Reserved is the portion assigned to jobs or visits that are not completed yet. Available is what is not reserved and ready to use, which is Total Qty minus Reserved. Incoming is the amount ordered on purchase orders you have placed but not yet received, so it is not part of your on-hand count until it arrives. Purchase orders still in Draft do not count toward Incoming, because they have not been placed with a supplier yet, and neither do voided ones.

Reorder Level is the threshold you set per item that signals it is time to restock. It is a company-wide figure, so it appears only when you are viewing all locations rather than a single one, and the Needs Reorder filter uses it to surface items that have run low.

When you are viewing all locations, hovering the Available number opens a per-location breakdown showing Total, Reserved, and Available for each location, with the default location marked. To change an item's on-hand count, use Adjust Total Quantity from the item's menu.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://learn.withessential.com/field-operations/inventory/inventory-quantity-terms-on-hand-reserved-available-incoming.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
