# Can I reverse a payment I recorded?

Recording a payment can't be reversed from the app. Whether you use Record Payment for the full balance or for a partial amount, the action can't be undone - there's no un-pay, reverse, or refund button afterward.

Once any payment, full or partial, has been recorded the invoice also can't be voided, since Void is only for invoices with no money collected; to clear the remaining balance on a partially paid invoice without collecting it, use Mark as Uncollectible to write off the rest.

There's no in-app way to back out a payment you've already recorded, so if you recorded one by mistake, or for anything already sent to the customer or synced to your accounting, reach out to the Essential team to help sort it out.

> **Where to find it:** On the invoice, the recorded payment; an invoice with any payment recorded (paid or partially paid) has no Void option, so reach out to the Essential team to correct it

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://learn.withessential.com/revenue/invoices/can-i-reverse-a-payment-i-recorded.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
