# Duplicate a quote

Open an existing quote, open its three-dot menu, and choose **Duplicate**. You need permission to create and edit quotes. Save any changes first and wait for any generation or save to finish. You can duplicate a signed, sent, expired, or void quote as well as a draft.

The copy opens as an unsaved form. The original customer and property are selected, and you can change or clear the property before saving. Choose a property and select **Save** to create the draft and assign its new quote number. Leaving without saving creates no quote. Refreshing the page reloads the source and discards unsaved edits.

For the same property, the copy keeps the customer and property, contact, description, line items and groups, quantities, prices, taxes, discounts, terms, validity period, PO number, attachments, linked jobs, and non-unique custom fields. Review and fill in any unique custom fields before sending.

If you change the property, linked jobs, the copied contact, and the copied PO number are cleared. Ordinary attachments and quoted prices stay in the form. Automatic taxes follow the new property; review manual rates and any untaxed items that may have been exempt at the original property. A review warning appears only for a known state/city scope conflict in a copied manual rate or unresolved untaxed items from an exempt source. Valid destination rates need no confirmation. If prompted, select **Confirm tax selections** after reviewing the affected items.

A source item with no saved tax rate contributes no tax to an unchanged-property copy. Choose a rate explicitly if the new quote should charge tax; changing the property also reviews the destination tax treatment.

The copy starts without the original's signature, signing notes, expiration date, or send history. It does not send the quote to anyone. Review the draft, make any changes, and send it when ready.

## Copy to another customer with the Assistant

Ask the Essential Assistant to copy the source quote to the destination customer and property. For example: “Copy quote #Q1039 exactly to a new draft for Sbarro at L.G. Smith Blvd.” Review the source quote, destination customer, property, and total, then confirm the action. Save any source edits first. If the saved source changes before confirmation, request a fresh proposal. The completed card links to the new draft.

The source can belong to another customer in your business. The Assistant copies the saved description, line items, quantities, prices, taxes, discounts, terms, validity period, and document template into a fresh draft for the destination. It keeps the original prices and taxes; review them for the destination before sending. The source quote stays unchanged. Attachments, linked jobs, PO numbers, and custom fields are not carried across through the Assistant.

> **Where to find it:** Quotes → open a quote → three-dot menu → Duplicate. To use a different customer, choose one of that customer’s properties in the unsaved copy.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://learn.withessential.com/revenue/quotes/duplicate-a-quote.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
