# Generate a quote draft with AI

Once you have selected a customer and property on a new quote, you can have Essential draft the quote for you instead of building it line by line. If your business has saved prompt templates, they appear first under "Choose a template" - pick the one that matches the work, or skip it.

Below that is a prompt box where you can describe this specific draft or add specifics on top of a chosen template, for example "Customer is on the loyalty program - apply 10% off." You need either a selected template or some text in the prompt before the Generate button becomes active.

When you click Generate, a progress panel appears showing the draft being built step by step, including line items cascading in as they are created for a priced quote. When generation finishes, the draft opens as an editable quote. Nothing is sent to the customer automatically - the AI output is a starting point.

For a quote started from deficiencies, the draft uses the selected findings and the equipment they belong to. Repeated mentions of the same repair do not add more parts, and work already recorded as completed is distinguished from work still needed. Component quantities can be larger than the number of systems—for example, several fusible links on one kitchen system.

Review every line, price, and quantity, make any edits you need, then save and send as usual. Generated line items can carry a short rationale you can view, and you can change or remove anything the AI produced.

Use the prompt or template instructions to request separate charges or a single package. Those instructions take precedence over the customer's usual format. If a custom line is marked "needs a price," enter its price before sending; an earlier package with the same name may cover different work.

Some quote document templates are configured without items or pricing. A quote generated from one of these templates opens without the Items, sales tax, discounts, totals, or pricing table and can be saved and sent without a dollar amount. Review the description and Terms & Conditions instead; Terms & Conditions are still required.

> **Where to find it:** On a new quote, after you pick a customer and property, the generate option appears with a template picker and a prompt box marked with a sparkles icon.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://learn.withessential.com/revenue/quotes/generate-a-quote-draft-with-ai.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
